Jesse Railo received the prize for his doctoral dissertation "Geodesic tomography problems on Riemannian manifolds" (University of Jyväskylä, Finland, 2019), and for his other early career contributions in inverse problems, including active scientific collaboration and teaching of inverse problems. The dissertation was supervised by Professor Mikko Salo.

Jesse Railo works in the research group of Professor Rima Alaifari, and has been a postdoctoral researcher at the Seminar for Applied Mathematics (SAM) since September 2020.

The Finnish Inverse Prize is the annual award of the Finnish Inverse Problems Society. The purpose of the award is to recognize outstanding achievements in the field of inverse problems broadly defined, and to encourage future work in the field. Most often the prize is awarded to a young researcher for an outstanding doctoral thesis in inverse problems. The prize winner is selected by the Board of Governors of the Finnish Inverse Problems Society. Starting from 2000, the award is presented in the annual Inverse Days conference, and the current prize amount is 2000 Euros.
