Title Some statistical theory for PDE-constrained inverse problems
Speaker, Affiliation Prof. Dr. Richard Nickl, University of Cambridge, UK
Date, Time 27 November 2018, 17:15-18:15
Location KO2 F 150
Abstract We consider the problem of inferring unknown coefficients of elliptic partial differential operators in natural statistical measurement settings, such as Gaussian regression or diffusion models, and with high- or infinite dimensional parameter spaces. The Bayesian approach to such inverse problems has recently become very popular, particularly as it provides associated uncertainty quantification methodology. We review some main algorithmic ideas and then move on to discuss recent mathematical progress about the theoretical understanding of the performance of such methods.
