Title Coloring Random Cayley Graphs (Achtung: new location!)
Speaker, Affiliation Prof. Dr. Noga Alon, Tel Aviv University, Israel
Date, Time 16 October 2012, 17:15-18:15
Location KOL G 217
Abstract The study of random Cayley graphs of finite groups is related to the investigation of Expanders and to problems in Combinatorial Number Theory and in Information Theory. I will discuss this topic, describing the motivation and focusing on the question of estimating the chromatic number of a random Cayley graph of a given group with a prescribed number of generators. The investigation of this problem combines combinatorial, algebraic and probabilistic tools. Several intriguing questions that remain open will be mentioned as well.

Title Is Dispersion a Stabilizing or Destabilizing Mechanism?
Speaker, Affiliation Prof. Dr. Edriss S. Titi, University of California, Irvine & Weizmann-Institut, Israel
Date, Time 27 November 2012, 17:15-18:15
Location KO2 F 150
Abstract In this talk I will present a unified approach for the effect of fast rotation and dispersion as an averaging mechanism for, on the one hand, regularizing and stabilizing certain evolution equations. On the other hand, I will also present some results on which large dispersion is a destabilizing mechanism for the long-time dynamics of certain dissipative evolution equations.
