Summation by Parts Formula for Noncentered Finite Differences

by R. Bodenmann

(Report number 1995-07)

Abstract
Boundary conditions for general high order finite difference approximations to $\frac{d}{dx}$ are constructed. It is proved that it is always possible to find boundary conditions and a weighted norm in such a way that a summation by parts formula holds.

Keywords: high order finite differences, summation by parts formula, energy method, linear stability, initial-boundary value problem
