The Institute

The Seminar for Applied Mathematics (SAM, in German: Seminar für Angewandte Mathematik) is a self-governed institute within the Department of Mathematics (D-MATH) of ETH Zurich. It was founded in 1948 and since then has maintained leadership and high visibility in various areas of mathematical modeling, numerical analysis and computational mathematics. It represents these fields in research and teaching within D-MATH and ETH Zurich. It has close links with sciences outside mathematics and partners from the industry.

In SAM there are currently four tenured faculty positions, one position for non-tenure track assistant professor (created in 2008), two permanent senior scientists, and two positions for administrative staff.
