Title GIT and the moment-weight inequality
Speaker, Affiliation Dietmar Salamon, ETH Zürich
Date, Time 24 February 2014, 15:15-16:30
Location HG G 43
Abstract In this lecture I will explain the moment-weight inequality, and its role in the proof of the Hilbert-Mumford numerical criterion for stability. The setting is Hamiltonian group actions on closed Kaehler manifolds. The moment-weight inequality relates the Mumford numerical invariants to the norm of the moment map on the complexified group orbit. Key ingredients in the proof are the negative gradient flow of the moment map squared and the Kemp-Ness function. This is joint work with Valentina Georgoulas and Joel Robbin, based on conversations with Xiuxiong Chen, Song Sun, and Sean Paul.

Abstract Given a smooth projective manifold defined over the reals, what is the expected topology of a codimension k submanifold chosen at random? (as the vanishing locus of a section of some rank k holomorphic vector bundle). I will explain how the L² estimates of Hörmander make it possible to tackle this question asymptotically and in particular to estimate its Betti numbers. This is a joint work with Damien Gayet.

Title On the topology of Lagrangian cobordisms between Legendrian submanifolds.
Speaker, Affiliation Baptiste Chantraine, Université de Nantes
Date, Time 17 March 2014, 15:15-16:30
Location HG G 43
Abstract A Lagrangian cobordism from a Legendrian submanifold $\Lambda^-$ to a Legendrian submanifold $\Lambda^+$ is an exact Lagrangian submanifold in the symplectisation of a jet space which coincide with the cylinder over the respective Legendrian submanifold near $\pm\infty$. We will discuss various restrictions on the topology of such a Lagrangian submanifolds when the negative end admits an augmentation. Such restriction are obtained by studying an exact sequence relating the singular homology of $\Sigma$ with the Legendrian contact homology of the ends obtain by generalising a construction of T. Ekholm. All preliminary definitions will be given. This is joint work with P. Ghiggini, R. Golovko and G. Rizell.

Title Lagrangian suspension = Seidel representation
Speaker, Affiliation Francois Charette, ETH Zürich
Date, Time 31 March 2014, 15:15-16:30
Location HG G 43
Abstract I will explain how a functor recently introduced by Biran and Cornea allows one to identify the Lagrangian suspension of Polterovich with the Lagrangian Seidel morphism of Hu-Lalonde. Then, we will see how this can be used to generate examples of Lagrangian cobordisms from a Lagrangian to itself which are pairwise distinct. This is joint work with Octav Cornea.

Title G2–instantons and the Seiberg–Witten equation with n spinors in dimension three
Speaker, Affiliation Thomas Walpuski, Imperial College, UK
Date, Time 7 April 2014, 15:15-16:30
Location HG G 43
Abstract In 1998 Donaldson–Thomas proposed to construct enumerative invariants for G2–manifolds by counting associative submanifolds and/or G2–instantons. Over the last years it has become clear that such an invariant (if it exists at all) has to be a weighted count of a range of objects between associative submanifolds and G2–manifolds. After reviewing the salient features of G2–geometry, I will describe an approach to constructing a coherent system of weights using a version of the Seiberg–Witten equation in dimension three, and discuss some work in progress with Andriy Haydys on the analysis of this equation.

Title Symplectic cohomology via circle-actions, and generation results for Fukaya categories
Speaker, Affiliation Alex Ritter, Oxford University
Date, Time 5 May 2014, 15:15-16:30
Location HG G 43
Abstract I will explain how Hamiltonian circle actions on non-compact symplectic manifolds give rise to generators and relations in the symplectic cohomology ring. In particular, if the Reeb flow at infinity arises from a Hamiltonian circle-action, then the symplectic cohomology is a quotient of quantum cohomology. For example this applies to negative line bundles. In the case of toric negative line bundles, this yields an explicit presentation of the quantum and symplectic cohomologies, and one obtains generators for the wrapped Fukaya category when the superpotential is a Morse function. A key ingredient is the open-closed string map and a generation criterion obtained in joint work with Ivan Smith.
